“Think Big and Big Things Will Happen”

CONGRATULATIONS to our Great Voice Inner Circle

“Member of The Month” February 2010 – Art Rosenbaum

Art Rosenbaum

[Susan] When did you get started in voice-over?

[Art]
I was a corporate trainer for over 20 years and sought vocal training to improve my skills in online training. I found The Great Voice Company, subsequently learned about the voice-over side and attended my first Great Voice Bootcamp in the Fall of 2007 in NYC with Susan, Diana Boylston, Alan Sklar and Adriana Davis. At the time, I was convinced that I wouldn’t make it in this business, but I’m sure glad I stuck with it!

[Susan] What sort of training have you been through for voice-over?

[Art]
I ‘ve attended 3(!) Great Voice Bootcamps (NYC, West Palm Beach and Sausalito). I take acting and improv classes and in order to keep my head in the right space, I participate in the Brazilian School of Analytical Trilogy on a weekly basis to study the works of Dr. Noberto Keppe.

[Susan] Are there any recent projects that you have worked on that you would like to share?

[Art]
I landed my biggest and most promising five figure job after going almost two years with just one hold from a top NYC Ad Agency. It started as a 1,200 word audio glossary and ended up becoming a 70 module eLearning contract with a worldwide non-profit technology and engineering association. As a result of my membership in Susan’s Mastermind Marketing Group and advice from Susan, I bid this job at four times the rate I was initially going to offer. They originally went for the rate, but as a result of the recession and the increased volume of work (modules went from 1 to 3-4 hours each), they asked me to come down on the rate in order to seal the contract. I did so and was still at three times the original rate I was initially going to offer. So, it literally pays to think, act and ask big! As a result of this contract, I bought a Whisper Room, changed my business structure from a Sole Proprietorship to an LLC so that I can hire a few freelance audio engineers to do the editing and save myself a huge amount of time!

[Susan] What is your favorite part of the Silver Inner Circle Program?

[Art]
My favorite part is Susan’s critiques of the audio samples that members send in every month. Not only is it enormously helpful to have Susan critique our own work, but hearing other VO talents receive their feedback is equally as beneficial.

[Susan] Is there any advice you would pass on to voice talent just starting out in the industry?

[Art]
Believe in yourself! Think Big! Price yourself as a premium service. I spent too much time thinking I was the little guy with no experience! When I decided that wasn’t the case, big things happened.

[Susan] Anything else you would like to share?

[Art]
After setting up the Whisper Room, it occurred to me that not only will I use it for myself, but can eventually use it to become a production company and help other VO talents make their way into this awesome business! Think Big and big things will happen!
