Voice Over Auditions – Should You Worry?

Voice Over Auditions – Should You Worry?

As you grow your voice over career, you’ll probably be doing lots of auditions.

While I teach my students how to get work without auditioning and competing with other voice actors, auditions are fun and you never know when you’ll book something really terrific, so they are a good thing to do.

With today’s high quality home studios, it’s easy to record audio from home that sounds so good, it could be broadcast on air.

But some people say there are unscrupulous people out there who will use your auditions without paying for them.

In other words, ripping you off.

Is this something you should be worrying about?

Is there anything you should be doing to protect yourself?

I address the issue in this week’s Inside Voice Over training video.

After you watch the video, I want to know your thoughts.

Write to me in the comments box. I want to learn what’s on your mind so I can support you.

  1. Hi Susan,

I happen to agree with you – we tend to sabotage ourselves way more than anyone else! I’m not concerned about being taken advantage of in this business – I just need to do the necessary work in order to succeed, get job offers, etc. I appreciate you making this video & your suppory. All the best in this upcoming new year to you & the voice over team.

  2. Happy Holidays to you, Susan. Absolutely spot on, GRTGR, has been my challenge. My initial voice tracks I believe do not reflect the best quality of my voiceover acting. Subsequently, I enjoyed the opportunity in sending out a track for your response at the end of weekly e-mail presentations. This gave me the passion to take risks and sharpen my skills. This workshop opportunity also gave me motivation. Operating in a solitary home studio environment, professional guidance helps to keep my professional discipline. Selecting and pursuing a marketing plan never materialized for me. Your updates are inspiring. How best to connect my focus in a daily professional voiceover acting pursuit is my challenge.
    Best regards,

  3. Susan, just wanted you to know I watch all your videos and appreciate the excellent information you provide – I gain insight with each one, and am gathering momentum to expand making money with my voice! Thank you for your professionalism and generosity.

  4. I agree with you. If it is someone I’ve never worked with, I alter the company contact info, but otherwise deliver a quality ready for broadcast demo.
    Thanks for the tip.
