Ready…set…warm up your voice for better voice over

Ready…set…warm up your voice for better voice over

This time of year, many people are in the gym, hoping to make good on their New Years resolution to get into shape.

If they’re smart, they start every workout with a warm up.

And you should do the same for every voice over audition or job, too.

But do you know what to do?

To be truly effective, warming up your voice for voice over takes a lot more than just spritzing a little water down your throat and saying “me, me me” like the old opera singer in a Bugs Bunny Cartoon.

In this week’s Inside Voice Over video training, I bring you the best vocal warmups that you can do quickly and easily before you turn on the mic.

I demonstrate them and teach them to you here…

After you watch the video, I want to know your thoughts. Do you regularly warm up your voice? Were my exercises easy to do?

Let me know your thoughts in the comments box. I want to read about what’s on your mind so I can support you.

  1. Thanks very much, Susan. As I do more voice-overs and reading aloud, I’ve definitely noticed that the vocal warm-up is critical. These are great, easy suggestions. All the best to you in 2016!

  2. Susan,
Thank you for the tips on warming up my voice before beginning my VO scripts.
I have been following you tips recently and find them to be down to earth and honestly applicable to what I am striving to become and that is a great VO Artist.
    Keep the tips coming.

  4. Susan, It’s possible I’ve had your “Speak to Influence” book now for about 10 years and it’s still my go to reference book when things crop up in my VO career. Your wisdom, encouragement and willingness to share your experiences continue to be motivating and helpful. Thank you, Becky
